Gigs in Spain, "Down with Jazz"...
I had a really nice time playing in Gijon, Spain with local musicians Felix Morales (drs), Jose Ramon Feito (pno) and Tony Cruz (bs). A great vibe all round and hopefully we can do it all again soon.

Recent gigs London, Belfast, Ards
Had a great time at the Pheasantry, Pizza Express playing with vocalist Stella Bass, Phil Ware and great London based rhythm section of Dave Green and Steve Brown. The previous night Stella and I played duo at the Island Arts Centre as part of our "Ella and Joe" series.
On Saturday I had a very pleasant afternoon workshop at Ards international Guitar Festival in the company of guitarist Ronnie Greer. A wonderful venue and really engaged and friendly audience made for a most enjoyable couple of hours.
On Sunday I played my last engagement under my own name at the iconic Dublin venue JJ's. I'll seriously miss playing there after so many wonderful nights and years there.
Hugh Buckley Group and Cello Ireland
Had a great time recently performing with Cello Ireland and string arrangements by Fiachra Trench. The group played the "Spike" Cello Festival in February and also recorded a session for RTE Lyric's "Purple Vespertine". I'm really excited about performing this music again in 2017.
"Ella and Joe"
"Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass". 2017 is the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the great Ella Fitzgerald. I'm delighted to be performing a series of concerts throughout the year with songstress Stella Bass celebrating this event. We've be performing in duo setting ala "Ella and Joe" and playing repertoire from there studio recordings and live shows.

Cork Jazz Festival
I had a great time at the Cork Jazz Festival 2016 performing with the wonderful New York based guitarist Sheryl Bailey w/Stephen Keogh and Mark Hodgson at the Triskel Arts Centre. Also a really fun gig with Isotope at Coughlans, a really fantastic small venue with a great vibe.
Hugh Buckley Group with Cello Ireland and other upcoming events
Really excited and honoured to be performing this upcoming project with Cello Ireland. On the 5th October I'll be playing a number of my compositions with strings arranged by the wonderful Fiachra Trench. This is something I have thought of doing for some time and many thanks to Una Ni Chainan of Cello Ireland for making it happen. We will perform at the Bello Bar on the 5th October with a view to to further performances in Spring 2017.
On 23rd September the DCJO will be appearing at the Limerick Jazz Festival with Norma Winstone and Claire Daly.
I am also looking forward to playing Limerick Jazz Festival with the cream of Irish Jazz guitar, Dave O'Rourke, Tommy Halferty and Joe O'Callaghan. (September 25th)

Irish Jazz Festivals
Just back from playing the wonderful Sligo Jazz Project. Great to see that this music is alive and well in Ireland. There are a number of Jazz Festivals happening over the next few months and hats off to all the organisers who run these events, most often with little or no funding. I'll be playing the Howth Jazz Festival this weekend, Limerick Jazz Festival in September and in October, the Galway and Cork jazz Festivals. (see "gigs' for more details)

It was great to hook up once again with the great Georgie Fame for a concert at the Triskel, Cork. Really enjoyed the evening with Phil Ware, Dave Redmond and Dominic Mullan. Georgie was in great form as we performed material from his "Poet in New York" album -one of my all time favourite jazz vocal recordings.

Summer gigs - 2015
It’s been a busy summer that featured a number of really enjoyable collaborations with fellow guitarists. It was a joy to play again with the great Louis Stewart at JJ’s, it had been a few years. Also at JJ’s, I had a fun gig with London jazz guitar legend Terry Smith.

Scottish guitarist Nigel Clark and I performed a series of duo gigs at the Sligo Jazz Project, promoting our latest CD “The Day of the Duo”.

Another wonderful event was the Grant Green tribute, a five nighter with the great Scottish guitarist Jim Mullen and Nigel Mooney (w/Scott Flanigan on organ and Dominic Mullan on drums).
A different experience was a concert at the Killaloe Chamber Music Festival with flamenco guitarist John Walsh and classical guitarist Redmond O’Toole. We each performed solo sets and then played together for the finale, a great vibe.

The Sligo Jazz Project was a blast and is a real credit to Eddie Lee and co. I enjoyed the concert with the DCJO and guest Ernie Watts. Also a really fun low key gig with Eddie Lee and Ciaran Wilde and the great legendary Us drummer Adam Nussbaum. We were also joined by the wonderful Paul Clarvis on drums.
